Staff Development Remission Plan
Eligibility and Participation:
Both full and part-time University faculty and staff are eligible for payments of workshop costs offered through Staff Development Remission. Because this plan supports work-related training, there is no waiting period for eligibility. However, since release time from work and financial accountability are involved, the value of a course is determined by the department. Faculty and staff must have budget authorization; staff must also have supervisory approval.
Payment Allowances:
Courses for which staff register and attend are charged to Staff Development Remission. Courses for which staff register, but do not attend or cancel with five (5) working day's notice are charged to the departmental budget number authorized on the registration form.
The one-week's notice for cancellation is waived only for personal emergencies, i.e., a family member's death, unexpected hospitalization, automobile or personal injury accident or serious illness. Written documentation is required. Conflicts in work schedules, etc., do not qualify for waivers.
Departments are responsible for cancellations if a staff member transfers to another department or terminates employment with the University.
Forms and Procedures:
1. Obtain a registration form from the relevant University Program. Forms are printed in the program brochures.
2. Complete the form and submit to your department for approval. No other forms are necessary (Tuition Remission Vouchers are not needed for this type of remission.)
3. Obtain budget authorization and supervisory approval where necessary.
4. Return the completed form to the Education Assistance Benefits Office.
5. Faculty and staff will receive an Acknowledgement / Confirmation Notice; those who cannot be accommodated will be placed on a waiting list.
